PITTSBURGH – United States Steel Corporation will kick off its Pittsburgh-area
2009 United Way employee campaign by hosting its annual Party on the Plaza
event Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on the plaza
outside the U. S. Steel Tower. The event, which is in its fourteenth year and
is open to the public, is the largest one-day fundraising event for the United
Way of Allegheny County.
“The Party on the Plaza is just one of the many ways that our employees help
others and give back to the communities we call home,” said Mike Williams,
senior vice president – North American Flat Roll Operations for U. S. Steel
and chairman of the company’s 2009 United Way campaign. “U. S. Steel and our
Pittsburgh-area employees are proud to host this event and are committed to
supporting the United Way of Allegheny County’s efforts to address
southwestern Pennsylvania’s most critical health and human services needs.”
Games, raffles and a large, prize-filled silent auction are just some of the
activities available to Partygoers. All proceeds from the day’s events
benefit the United Way of Allegheny County. Local celebrities will also be on
hand to sign autographs and pose for pictures. Scheduled to appear at the
event are: Randy Grossman, former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end (1974 – 1981),
and Ellis Cannon, host of a daily sports talk show on FM News Talk 104.7 and
president and publisher of The Pittsburgh Sports Report.
